Welcome! This is brand new for us, and we want to take your ideas into consideration as we plan for the future of two glorious historic theaters. Many of the following questions address what we are thinking about, not the final decisions.
Why did the name of the theater change?
The Grand assumed operation of the former DuPont Theatre on January 20, 2015 and will lease the facility from the building owner. We hope this name evokes many fond memories of the theater’s illustrious past and also heralds a bright new future.
What will happen to the Broadway series?
We will continue the Broadway Series at The Playhouse. Theatrical performances are part of the illustrious history of the theater and will be the primary focus for the future.
Can we keep our same seats at The Playhouse?
Absolutely! Current Playhouse Broadway Series Subscribers can keep their seats if they renew their subscription for the 2015-2016 season by the deadline. We expect subscription renewals to go out in early spring.
Will I still have my subscriber benefits?
Yes, your benefits will remain the same for the current season. Any enhancements to subscriber benefits will be announced with the subscription renewal mailing.
What about ticket and service charges?
We do not intend to make any immediate changes to the ticket and service charges for the current season. We are reviewing the fee structure and it is possible that service charges will decrease in the future.
How do I contact the Box Office?
The phone number has changed! To reach The Playhouse on Rodney Square Box Office, please call 302.888.0200. To reach The Grand’s Box Office, please call 302.652.5577 or 800.37.GRAND.
Will the Box Office hours change?
Box Office hours for The Playhouse on Rodney Square have not changed, but soon you will be able to buy tickets for Playhouse and Grand shows at both locations. The current Playhouse Box Office hours are Monday through Friday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. On performance days, the Box Office remains open until 15 minutes after curtain. For performances that fall on a weekend, the Box Office opens at 11:00 am and remains open until 15 minutes after curtain.
How can we find out about new shows being added?
New shows are added all the time. To be kept informed, please sign up for the mailing list, follow us on Facebook and Twitter, and keep an eye on the websites.
What website do I go to?
Eventually the website will be incorporated with The Grand’s, but for now you should please visit www.ThePlayhouseDE.org to purchase tickets and find out show information.
Can I take my drink into the theater?
Yes! You can now bring your concessions to your seat.
Are there any changes to parking?
Your parking options will remain the same. Parking is available to our patrons at either of the lots on Orange Street between 11th and 12th Streets, just before the Hotel du Pont. The first one is the Community Service Lot (open Monday-Thursday 7:00 am to 11:00 pm, Friday 7:00 am to 1:00 am, closed Saturday and Sunday) and the second one is the Hotel du Pont lot (open 24 hours every day).
How could the nonprofit Grand “buy” The Playhouse?
Legally it was a sale, but the out-of-pocket cost was minimal. No donor funds were used to complete the transaction.
Will The Playhouse be profit or nonprofit?
Grand Opera House, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit. By bringing The Playhouse on Rodney Square under the umbrella of The Grand’s operations, it will become a part of the nonprofit entity.
When will renewal notices go out?
It is our intention that renewal notices will be mailed in early spring. Please keep an eye on your mailbox.
